Why Singapore must not be complacent - Eun Chan

Singapore should never be complacent. In fact, no matter what country it is, a country should never be complacent. It is due to the fact that complacency is never good to anyone, not even a country. Complacent is defined as showing smug to one’s achievements.
This is not just being proud or confident in your achievements. This is going way beyond that as it shows arrogance. If Singapore starts to become complacent just because of the work our founding fathers have done, Singapore might start to lag behind, remain undeveloped or even stay stagnant. This is never good as we should take into consideration that we are not the only country in the entire world. We have hundreds of other countries to compete with and if we choose to be complacent and stay stagnant, other countries will soon catch up very fast. This is quite horrifying as it would mean the efforts of our founding fathers wasted. Even though we are ahead of many countries in many ways right now, that does not guarantee a same spot for our country in the future. Singaporeans must learn now not to depend solely on our parents but to make Singapore proper with our own hands.

Therefore, I think Singapore should not be complacent as it might badly affect the country’s future.
