To keep or not to keep: Ping Zhi
The Old Ford Motor Factory is one such landmark in Singapore that is preserved. I agree that it should be preserved because it is a symbol of World War II in Singapore, and it was a national milestone. The people of Singapore went through alot of suffering and fear during the World War, but we were strong as a nation. The Old Ford Factory was the place where the British surrendered Singapore to the Japanese and the Japanese used Old Ford Factory as a place to assemble military vehicles. The Old Ford Factory also has an exhibition displaying the surrender inside the building. Landmarks from World War II are rare in Singapore, as most of them would have been already removed by the end of the war. World War II was a memorable obstacle in Singapore's history and the Old Ford Factory will allow the Singaporeans of future generations learn about the history of Singapore and being familiar with the history of Singapore will help build a strong Singapore identity within Singaporeans. Therefore, I feel that the Old Ford Motor Factory should be preserved.
