Why Singapore must not be complacent in her achievements: Ping Zhi

The world will never stop changing and we must change with it. Being one of the best countries today does not mean that Singapore will be tomorrow. The needs of the world and its people will be ever-changing, and to keep up with the rest of the world, we need to learn about our changing surroundings and never stop improving ourselves. Although Singapore is already the best in many areas, we need to be constantly reminded that in many other areas, we are not. We cannot avoid improving ourselves, or think too highly of ourselves, or we will soon be left behind. If we become too complacent, we may also start looking down on other countries and unconsciously offend them, creating unrest. In this day and age, with the dangerous and modern technologies the world has forged with its own hands, we cannot afford war. Not being complacent as a country will maintain the current peace of the world. Being satisfied with what we are now will never feed the future and we need to ask ourselves: do we want to make things happen or do we want to watch things happen?
